Well I might as well get it over with straight away; what
went wrong today? They say a picture is worth a thousand words; see Tony’s rear
wheel!
Fortunately the rim exploded less than a kilometre from a
bike store so $150 and 40 minutes later we were back on the road.
And just to set the record straight, I did not kick Tony
wheel because Tony beat me up a hill!
After all there are no hills.
After all there are no hills.
The weather? Well let’s just say it was cold, bitingly cold,
when we set off. I actually wore long finger gloves for the first time which
made it more pleasant. Wind? Oodles, although we were moving around again as
usual, the morning felt like real slog with the temperature and the wind. We
did go through some nice roads, forests and the like. The worst part of the
morning was the route off the island that Stege is on. There wasn’t a huge
bridge to battle over, just 5Ks into a roaring wind on the side of a mildly busy
road L
Not long after that we had a ferry ride, across to
Stubbekobing. We had a bit of a wait while we waited for the ferry, a pleasant
and invigorating (!) ferry ride across and then we went and had lunch at a
pizza bar. I was a bit spoiled by the pizza place in the Tivoli Gardens, so
this wasn’t up to that standard but it gave me the oomph I needed for the
afternoon.
The afternoon itself was very nice. The weather warmed up
(marginally) we had some nice tail winds (from time to time) and there were
some really lovely little country lanes (sometimes with hedges) and forest
tracks that we went through. Even better than the morning ride.
We eventually made our way back to Nykobing Falster and went
first to see if we could book a train to Hamburg. Unfortunately I couldn’t make
head nor tail of the booking system (and I did ask) so in the end we decided
we’ll ride to Gedser tomorrow. We then used the GPS to get us to the B&B.
It’s a good thing we had the GPS, not sure how you’d find it otherwise.
Once there we did the usual things; including watching the
Tour! A sprint finish with a bad crash caused by Peter Sagan. We then decided
we would walk to the nearby mariner as there are meant to be restaurants there.
We checked them all out, most were full so in the end we went to a Chinese
Buffet, which, unusually, was also a Sushi train which was an all you can eat!
Tony had a the odd plate or two J
To be fair, most of the plates only had one item on them.
Then we walked back to the B&B, checked out train routes
and decided we would try and make it to Almelol in the Netherlands. It will
require two changes and 6h20 to get there. Assuming we can get a train that
takes the bikes?
On the assumption that we can get there we have booked two
rooms for the night! Bed around 11pm as usual.
