Day in Copenhagen

Ah what a lovely day J This is more like the touring I was waiting for. Hotel. Warm. WiFi. Wandering around town. Watching the Tour. Dinner out. Ahhhhhh.

We both slept in and then Tony went out for a coffee while I did stuff and then at 9 (not around 9, at 9 – Tony had a plan) we were out for a walk. We stopped at the tourist info across the road and got a map. Then we meandered our way to the Little Mermaid which he wanted to see. We had a long wandering walk and checked out several sights along the way.

The Little Mermaid had a massive crowd which seemed far in excess of the sculpture itself. We got a photo, checked out the crowds and then started heading back. We stopped at a fine wine store, and yes it was open! I bought a 2009 Bordeaux for lunch.

We stopped at a number of interesting sights and then went back to the train station and bought a selection of stuffs to have with lunch (bread, Camembert, roast beef, beer, coke, Salami, hummus). Back in the room we had a lovely two hour lunch sitting around watching the highlights of past Tours while gorging ourselves on the bread and delicacies plus 3/4 of the bottle of wine. A bliss J

Tony didn’t want to go for another walk, in fact he wanted to watch TV and have a bath. So I went out for a different walk and went to the David Gallery. It’s meant to specialise in 18th Century art but the top two floors were about Islamic art and history which was way more interesting than the Danish art J

After a pleasant time I wandered back along yet a different route and stopped at a couple of supermarkets to see how they compared with the one at the station. Surprisingly the station had the best one that I saw.

Back at the room we watched the last 2 hours of the first stage of the Tour (a Time Trial) and then went over to the Tivoli Gardens. I don’t recall ever hearing about the gardens but it is a great attraction right in the heart of the city.

There are numerous rides, which we didn’t go on, and pretty gardens. I checked out a couple of junk shops (too junky for me) and had a sit for a while to watch some of the vomitus rides.

Around 9 we went and had a meal. I had a delicious pizza, Capriccioso no olives, and water. The pizza had a really nice base, crisp in the centre and puffy on the sides. Really nice, lots of energy for tomorrow. We had a look at one of the plays they run, pantomime, and had planned to stay for a garden concert, however Tony was too tired so we headed back.

There were fireworks at 11:45 pm, quite nice and directly across the road from us. We watched that and then went to bed, around 12:15 am.
