A lovely day today! Well actually it was overcast most of
the day and it was quite windy, it almost rained, it was cold. But it didn’t
rain!
We left at 8:15 (seems to be our start time) and Tony led us
out of town using the GPS. The route was fairly straight forward and we were
soon out of town. I got a shot of the city from a bridge, but it was already
too small. There was a fairly strong wind, mainly a side wind, sometimes a head
wind and occasionally a tail wind.
There was an interesting area along the coast where Geese
were breading, oodles of them. Several gave Tony the eye as he went past J We stopped at a petrol
station and as we were going reasonably quick I had a Gatorade, only $7! I also
switched to my yellow lenses, it really does make it look warmer.
We made pretty good time to Koge and I thought it was a good
idea to have lunch. Tony had an omelette and I had a tuna sandwich (more like a
burger) with fries. There was an old hotted up car rally going on in the square
but neither of us were interested so after lunch we headed on out. Less than 40
Ks to go.
The route moved off the road after a few Ks and wandered
through the hills (ho ho) with some nice trees and small villages. We stopped
at a castle for a look; the gate was open but the castle seems to be apartments
so you can’t go in.
There were a few points of interest along the way, churches
and the like but we didn’t go in. When we were 5 Ks out I thought there was a
castle and wanted to go off route and check it out. Tony wasn’t interested so
he went ahead. It turns out it was a church on a cliff which is probably cool
from sea but so so from the front.
I did the last 5 Ks quite quickly and met up with Tony.
There was a market on at the quay side so I had a walk through there while Tony
sat with the bikes and got a snack. Then we quickly found the B&B, got the
key, and then unpacked and showered. It was really nice to get in early for a
change (around 2 pm).
The Tour is on! So I watched the last 80 Ks of that and up
loaded the photo’s (which I haven’t done for a few days). Marcel Kittel one the
stage and then we walked into town for another look. The market was gone so we
checked out all of the restaurants and the yachts at the mariner. Then we went
and had a very satisfying Thai meal (neither of us felt like waiting for the
restaurant to open, nor did we want deep fried fish and chips). The meal was
quite nice and I finished it off with two scoops of gelato (choc and lemon).
Very nice.
Then back to the B&B for washing and then this diary and
a good read. I went to bed early 9:30, but woke up when Tony came in.
Apparently it had been a bit noisy… Then some other guests went into the lounge
and were really loud. So Tony put a folding bed in the bathroom and slept
there!
